Chemical etching can be used to make your most challenging Optical encoder disc. Slots can be as small as 1.2 times the thickness of the material. Therefore on .005 thick material, the openings of the optical encoder disc can be as small as .006. Etching can also create webs that are as small as 60% of the material thickness. On a .005 thick optical encoder disc the webs can be as small as .004 wide.
Because our etching process dissolves the extra material, it does not add any extra stress to the metal. This will allow the optical encoder disc to stay as flat as the material with which we started. Chemical etching does not create any burrs on parts thus leaving no extra obstruction on the part.
